the fact two of these are masculine women... die actually

susansontag

like seriously this shit is getting so transparent. feminine women rushing to the few depictions of masculine and gender non-conforming female characters that exist and calling it a problem (and this is about period dramas! these women would have been, or actually were, putting their entire reputation as women on the line omfg!!!). if self-assured confident women who don’t wear pink frills and have aspirations outside of marriage makes you feel insecure then idk analyse that it’s your own problem

margridarnauds

...maybe if y’all had actually read what she had to say about Anne Lister, you wouldn’t be complaining about it based off of a thumbnail.

marzipanandminutiae

yeah, the thumbnail is misleading because Cox actually praises Gentleman Jack as a great example of showing how a masculine woman might thread the needle of personal expression vs. society's expectations in the 1830s

same with Jo in the 1990s Little Women, pretty much. she criticizes the later version because Jo shows up in literal half-menswear to essentially a job interview with a publisher she's never met before, which would be career suicide for a working-class woman in 1869 and therefore ignores the lived reality of Victorian women's lives to fit 2010s expectations of what a masc-leaning woman looks like

the movies/shows on the left are ones she likes; the ones on the right are ones she has issues with

she also talks about Actual (Mostly) Masc-Presenting Woman George Sand, and the practice of women applying for trousers licenses in 19th-century Paris

but of course, actually watching the video would be harder than immediately going to judgment, right?

EDIT: apparently OP is a t*rf who hates historical costumers in general because we "bend over backwards to defend the corset." color me surprised.

CGI animators should unionize next. normally, their jobs would be too precarious to strike, since studios would replace them without a second thought, but if it's part of this larger general film strike, they might finally have meaningful power to better their working conditions

studentofetherium

if CGI animators unionized, it would kill the MCU. straight up. the the entire business model is built on exploiting CGI animators
